Olympus Cameras just a while ago announced that it will spend Rs 50 crore to open exclusive showrooms in Bangalore, Kolkatta, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai by 2010.
The company had a revenue of mere $10 Million from India last year which it hopes to double this year. Mr. Fuda, GM of Olympus Imaging India said,
The total market in India was about 6.5 lakh units last year and is likely to become 10 lakh units in the current year. Olympus’ target is to sell 1.4 lakh cameras this fiscal and hope to have a 40% growth in the next 2 years.
Olympus products are available in 2,000 multi brand outlets which the company plans to increase to 3,500 by the end of the year. The company also launched higher end water-proof, shake-proof digital cameras priced between Rs 15,995 and Rs 41,995.
