RPG group promoted Spencer’s Retail is planning to open 20 Hypermarkets each of 20,000 sft. Currently the company has 15 such stores. It will cost Spencer’s Rs 10 crore to setup one such hypermarket.
The company is also planning to add 100 small format convenience stores. The supermarket chain follows cluster business model. Its new stores would come up around hypermarkets in tier I, II and III cities. Spencer’s is targeting Nasik, Nagpur, Surat, Indore and Kolkata.
Mr. Nimish Shah VP of West said that with rising Inflation in India, their sales were marginally affected. However, Spencer’s customers are basically urbanites and slight variations in prices is unlikely to affect their consumption.
