India remains a key focus market for L’Oreal and we have seen aggressive activity in hair color, shampoos and skin care in recent times by the company. L’Oreal India is emerging as a significant personal care and cosmetics player both in mid end (Garnier) and high end (L’Oreal) segments. It recently launched L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 hair care range in India. The hair care includes Shampoo, Conditioner and Masque. The products have been positioned in the premium end. Shampoo has been priced at Rs130 for 200ml and Rs72 for 100ml.
L’Oreal has also reduced the price of its sachet of Garnier Skin Light fairness cream from Rs12 to Rs10 and has introduced smaller pack priced at Rs69 to enhance affordability for its product. We would anticipate more such smaller SKUs to be launched across other product categories as L’Oreal goes the value way.
L’Oreal reported 31.5% Like to Like (LTL) sales growth for its Indian operations. We believe L’Oreal will emerge as a key competitor for Indian personal care companies.
