Aditya Birla Group’s retail ventured kicked off in Pune with the launch of “More” brand of supermarket store opening in Pune. The store is located in Viman Nagar. Two more were also opened in Nigadi and Padmavati.
Sumant Sinha, CEO of Birla Retail said,
The core part of our strategic plan is to have our own branded products. Out of the 4,000 items currently stocked in store, 140 comprising mainly of grocery items such as pulses, rice and atta are “More” branded products. We exercise great quality assurance on “More” products.
Andrew Denby, CEO Supermarkets, said
14 more stores will be opened in Pune over the next two weeks. The “More” supermarket store will be 5,000-10,000 sft in size and cater to consumers daily needs. The “More” hypermarket will be larger than 15,000 sft and will take care of monthly and event based shopping needs of the Indian consumer.
More – Retail has also tied up with Apollo Hospitals to establish OTC health care and Pharmacy within its supermarkets.
Aditya Birla retail policy is extremely good because we need a store of at least the size of 5,000 to 10,000 sft. While Reliance Retail stores are merely 3,000 sft and they don’t sell more than vegetables and is likely to take a beating when it competes with “More” brand in the market just like how Reliance Infocom’s DAPO phone was a big flop.
