Indian small towns are witnessing a prominent shift in buying behaviour from need-based to want-based purchase. Products such as face wash, hair-conditioner, air freshener, prickly heat powder, after-shave lotion, pre/post wash fabric products, jams, jellies, cheese, fragrances and liquid toilet soap now form a larger part of consumer basket.

Marico’s Growth all about Brands – Saffola, Parachute, SetWet, Zatak and Kaya Clinics

Marico consumer products company and owner of Kaya Skin and Hair clinic retail chain saw healthy growth in many segments of its business.

Marico reported strong volume traction in coconut oil, value added hair oil and Saffola (edible oil). Parachute coconut oil in rigid packs reported a strong 18% YoY growth in volumes. Fewer Marriage Dates Disappoint Titan’s Tanishq + GoldPlus Sales

Titan Industries first quarter performance was below our expectation due to a sharp fall in wedding dates (the lowest in last eight years) and consumer sentiments as Gold continues to stay at an all time high. Customer growth decline of 2.4% YoY is a negative for the business. Average gram / bill has been declining by ~10% since last few quarters.

Dominos Same Store Sales Softens for First Time + Online / Mobile Sales Contribution 14%

Dominos Pizza witnessed moderated growth of 22% during the quarter [June-12] after 9 quarters of25%+ SSS growth due to weakening consumer demand. Management noted that they have witnessed some sluggishness in consumer demand during the quarter which made an impact of couple of percentage points on same store sales growth.
